ABOUT CRANBOURNE ESTATE

Cranbourne Estate is a family owned plantation with origins dating back to 1927 when PJ Watts of Britain was allocated land to farm coffee and rubber by the Scotsman Collector of Salem David Cockburn. Today, there are no rubber trees, but plenty of native shade trees and fruit trees interplanted with Silver oak trees.

The estate is also referred to as “Kodiangal” Estate, meaning “stretch of rock”. The northern most portion of the estate which covers over 30 acres is a ~2 km long stretch of rock, with ~60 degree slopes and amazing views of the horizon, valleys and plains. This is why the locals call it "kodiangal".

The estate is located at an elevation ranging from ~4500 feet to ~3200 feet above mean sea level. We share a large portion of our boundary with the Attur Ghat and Kanjeri  forest range.

We rely on a diverse mix of shade trees that include silver oak, jack fruit, orange, pomelo, fig, avocado, dadap, glyricidia, and other native trees (Moola, Kaduka, Vaagai).

Cranbourne Estate seeks to maintain a good relationship with the two neighbouring villages: Vellur, and Kondaiyanur. We continue to contribute financially and in form to advance the lives of the people in the two villages.
